Participation Funds
For those who, when investing, ask not only "how much will I earn?" but also "where will this income come from?", Participation Funds are the right choice. These funds invest in assets approved by Advisory Boards, which are interest-free and deemed religiously permissible.
The most distinctive feature of these funds is the sectors and instruments they never include in their portfolio:
Interest Income: Deposit interest, repurchase agreements (repos), or interest-bearing bonds cannot be included in these funds.
Prohibited Sectors: Shares of companies operating in areas such as alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, gambling, pork production, or traditional banking/insurance are not included in the portfolio.
2. So, Where Does the Money Value?
Participation funds focus on the following instruments based on "sharing and the real economy":
Sukuk (Rental Certificates): An interest-free alternative to interest-bearing bonds. It offers returns based on ownership or the right to use an asset.
Participation Stocks: Only shares of companies that meet the "Participation Index" criteria, have low debt ratios, and operate in a suitable field are selected.
Gold and Precious Metals: The most fundamental and natural investment instruments of interest-free finance.
Participation Accounts: Accounts based on profit-sharing partnerships in participation banks.
3. Why Choose a Participation Fund?
Respect for Sensitivities: You are assured that your savings do not contradict your beliefs.
Professional Auditing: Every asset within the fund is regularly audited by "Advisory Boards" composed of Islamic jurisprudence experts.
Support for the Real Economy: Your money is directed towards production, trade, and tangible assets, not to the interest lobby.
4. Who is it Ideal For?
Those who say, "I have a sensitivity to interest, but I also want to protect the value of my money."
Those who want to invest in the stock market but aim to become partners only in companies that meet ethical criteria.
Those seeking interest-free options within the Private Pension System (BES).
5. Return Potential and Taxes
Contrary to popular belief, participation funds can perform similarly to, or sometimes even better than, interest-bearing funds. Participation funds, especially those holding technology or export-oriented equity investments, have high growth potential. Taxation is generally the same as other fund types (0% or 17,50% withholding tax on earnings, depending on the fund type).
In summary, participation funds are a "value-oriented" investment model that combines financial gain with peace of mind.
